Location

Oregon High School

Oregon, WI 53575

Directions

  1. From anywhere in Madison or surrounding areas, take the Beltline Highway to Hwy 14.
  2. Go south on Hwy. 14 (also known as South Park Street) toward Oregon. (You'll go through about 6 miles of woods and farmland.)
  3. Take the Oregon exit and turn right at the bottom of the ramp.
  4. Continue south on Main Street about 1.5 miles, to Lincoln Street.
  5. Turn left on Lincoln Street. Continue until Lincoln Street ends at N. Perry Parkway. Oregon High School is directly in front of you. Turn left or right to access the north or south parking lots (either is fine).
  6. Park in either the north or south parking lot and enter the main doors between them.

Here's a Google Map you can use to create driving directions

Once you arrive, you can use the handy map below to find your way inside. After you park, proceed to the Commons where you can register, grab some coffee and bakery items, and meet your fellow PLP-ers. (Note: I'm directionally challenged, so north is to the left on this map.)

For the more adventuresome, Madison has a plethora of restaurants. Here are some of my recommendations.
  • Ha Long Bay Vietnamese & Thai Bistro has great pho and the most authentic sticky rice and mango I've ever had. It's my current favorite restaurant.
  • The Williamson neighborhood has a delightful assortment of restaurants nearby, including two Jamaican venues, Jolly Bob's Jerk Joint and Jamerica, both of which have great jerk dishes.
  • Lao Laan Xang is a great Lao restaurant. I seem to have a thing for Asian foods. This is also on Williamson Street.
  • Dotty Dumpling's Dowry is a favorite Madison burger joint located near State Street and the campus area.
  • Ian's Pizza has a wonderful variety of creative pizzas to order by the slice. The available flavors change weekly. My kids' favorite is Mac and Cheese, which is always available.
  • Husnu's is a Turkish/Mediterranean restaurant on State Street. It's more upscale than most other State Street restaurants, and the prices are correspondingly higher, but the food is good! I enjoy Kabul's Afghanistanian fare, though I can't comment on how authentic it is, having never visited Afghanistan.
  • Inka Heritage was an adventurous experience for me, since I didn't know what Peruvian food was. Turns out, it was really good. My kids really liked it, too.
  • Those staying at the Quality Inn & Suites or Candlewood Suites in Fitchburg are within walking distance of the Great Dane Pub, a popular microbrewery with good Americana fare.

Oregon has a number of small restaurants including the Firefly Coffeehouse and BrouxNellie's Diner.
